Areas of standardisation

The concept of areas of standardisation sets out, in a logical system, the six areas for which it is worth creating standards in an organisation.

The concept in brief

  1. The model places the areas of standardisation along the two most important questions: on the value-creation side (what) and on the operational side (how).

  2. There are three areas on each side, and on each side we can move from the whole towards the parts or the other way round, as we choose and as circumstances require.

  3. In standardisation, we first choose the area and then choose standardisation methods for it.
