Deduction

The type of logical thinking that approaches the process from the result.

The concept in brief

  1. The importance of deduction can best be grasped in communication processes, because in effective communication I first make a statement and then prove it, not the other way round.

  2. In organisations, deductive thinking can be seen in reports and analyses where, in the client’s interest, I first present the proposal, conclusion or decision (statement), followed by the details and supporting evidence (proof).

  3. Deduction always includes an induction: in the course of proof, I measure, analyse and draw conclusions.
