The motivation triangle

The model shows the three components of motivation and places them within a concept.

The concept in brief

  1. Every employee needs to have motivation; building the motivation system is the leader’s task.

  2. In essence, motivation can be broken down into three basic concepts: being motivated, being open to motivation, and being able to motivate.

  3. The three concepts are closely linked: a change in any one of them – whether an increase or a decrease – affects how the other two develop.

  4. The direction for developing motivation: if I am weaker in one of them, I can develop it by strengthening the other two.
