The Eisenhower model
The Eisenhower model is used to prioritise processes, organising them according to the criteria of urgency and importance.
The concept in brief
The model is used in time management, to prioritise processes.
The model applies two criteria when categorising a process: how important the process is, and how urgent it is to deal with it.
When determining importance and urgency, it is worth thinking through for whom it is important and/or urgent: for the person filling it in, for the client, for another actor in the process, etc.
Each time the model is filled in, a decision has to be made on whether the processes in the not important and not urgent category are worth dealing with at all.
When setting priorities, urgent and important is the very first category; which takes priority – urgent but not important, or important but not urgent – depends on the situation.
